Science

The sixth grade science is a culmination of their time here at The Covenant School. Their main focus is built around Social and Personal Perspectives in Science and is modeled after the national science standards. Hands-on lab work is of utmost importance to the success of The Covenant School students in science where we understand that students learn by doing. The sixth graders also lead the Environmental Protection Club where they put their knowledge to action. Studies include the human body, variables, and pollution. The students will also participate in the science fair and science based field trips.

Sixth grade science, the students will spend the year in the life sciences. Reproduction and heredity, living systems, biomes, environments will be major areas of study. Lab-based learning will focus on DNA, Environments, and Variables. Sixth graders will learn the scientific process through both in-class experiments and a spring science fair.

History

Sixth grade Ancient History will lead us from Pre-History to the Renaissance. In depth studies will take place with ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, and China. The students will also be exposed to world geography by using Nystrom’s Hands-on Geography kit. Students will see how geography and history of people determine where population centers are located.
