Miss Snowden - 1st Grade

Our new year is off to a wonderful start! First graders have already begun to implement various mathematical skills in creating graphs using different types of data and in establishing meaningful daily routines such as counting the days of school using coins, tally marks and straws in a place value chart. We are thankful for the different types of weather over the past two weeks, as that makes a much more interesting weather graph from which to learn!

During the month of September, students will be exploring the meaning of membership in various groups such as family, community, state and country. Students will create time lines of their lives, as well as design and draw maps of their neighborhoods.

We are writers! First graders are thoroughly enjoying Writing Workshop, and have been writing some fabulous stories about important moments from their lives. It is truly a pleasure to share experiences with friends and classmates and get to know one another in a deeper way.
